Teaching a man to fish is a waste if you don’t give him a rod
Solace approaches each project with an open mind and flexible management style. By searching out solutions in the field, Solace consistently carries their funding further than the majority of other NGOs. Solace’s successes in the field have come through a balance of adapting to each situation while following a set of tried and true work strategies. These work strategies are the basis of Solace’s vision and have helped Solace expand its operations to nine countries in less than six years.
- Hold meetings with local business and community leaders to assess needs; find cost-effective, sustainable, and environmentally friendly ways to meet those needs.
- Create economic opportunities associated with construction of new facilities, which offset development costs, provide operating income and business training, and encourage community support.
- Search out local leadership to take charge of managing projects – infusing each enterprise with a sense of local ownership and the financial credibility from the savings that would otherwise go toward costs required of an expatriate staff.
- Develop partnerships with other non-profits, which compliment Solace’s capabilities and fit with Solace’s operational philosophy.
