Mbita Girls’ Vocational School
With the Boys' Vocational School producing a regular stream of skilled young men, it seemed likely that a school for girls would also succeed. Solace helped YGC purchase 30 acres of land on Mbita in 2008, on land of a former banana plantation.
Though work has stopped, as of 2010, considerable progress had been made:
- A power supply unit and storage container has been built to provide electricity and security while the rest of the campus is developed
- Two miles of fencing using a design incorporating a "living hedge" was erected, with the main posts having been produced with ferro cement at the Boys' campus
- Half of the final eight ferro cement dormitories have been constructed
- Composting latrines have been completed
