Malawi

Often referred to as the Warm Heart of Africa, Malawi is a beautiful, landlocked narrow strip of a country located on the shores of Lake Malawi. Unfortunately, Malawi is one of the 10 poorest countries in the world. Poverty is intertwined with a lack of educational opportunities, high incidence of various diseases—especially HIV/AIDS—and environmental degradation.

In the fall of 2005, Solace joined with the nonprofit Malawi Children’s Village (MCV) to build a secondary school for orphans of HIV/AIDS. The primary goal of the MCV is orphan survival and welfare. As the disease takes its toll among Malawi’s adult population, the numbers of AIDS orphans is rapidly rising. Education is a lifeline for many of these abandoned children.
